Okay, ladies and gents. I have little time for today's installment, but it is a topic that I want to weigh in on. Before I begin, I want to give a shout out to my one follower, Gabby. Thank you. Your support means the world, but even if no one read this at all I'd continue doing it as an outlet to my thoughts. Which are usually complicated.
Now, today, I want to talk about Tim Tebow. Yeah yeah, I know, you're all sick and tired of hearing about him. He's a topic as polarizing as any I can come up with at the current time. But I'm going to address it anyway. Today, his Denver Broncos take on the New England Patriots. I am quite excited for this game, and I would love to see Denver win. Many people would. But there are just as many people that want to see Denver lose. I have a few theories why.
1) Many people grow to dislike names they hear over, and over, and over. Like the San Francisco 49ers in the 90s, or the Dallas Cowboys. The New York Yankees, Ohio State University (although that one is understandable and perfectly acceptable to dislike), the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady (he isn't exempt), Peyton Manning, the list goes on forever. Tebow gets so much media attention, he has accidentally been tossed into this category. The fact is, even as successful of a football player as he was at the University of Florida, I am willing to make the bold assertion that if he wasn't so outspoken about his faith, he wouldn't receive as much attention. There are two thoughts on that. One is that people that are outspoken about their faith are a novelty in American society now. The other is that famous people that are outspoken about ANYTHING draw incredible amounts of media attention.
2) Another thought as to why people dislike Tebow is simply the faith factor. If he were outspoken about ANY faith, I think that people would be hostile towards him. If he were an outspoken Muslim, I think his life would be in danger. But Christianity is more acceptable here. But apparently, only being a closet Christian is acceptable. When your life becomes about your religion, you're bordering on extreme and offensive. Give me a break. Most people in America are more religious about their favorite sports than their faith, and from time to time, I'm guilty of it too. So they hear what Tebow has to say, and some inner guilt trip makes them uncomfortable, and they decide that they don't like it. They don't want an example of how they should live, because it reminds them that there is someone they have to answer to for the things they say and do in this life.
3) I think another reason is fear. Fear that Tebow's winning streak is proof that God does exist, and that he actually cares about things like football, and will aid those who call on him in all circumstances. And if God exists, then what I mentioned at the end of reason #2 applies even more. Now, I want to state that I really don't know if God is helping Tim Tebow win football games. I know God cares about things of that nature. He is present in all things, no matter how insignificant they may seem in the human scope of things. Americans pay so much attention to sports, and as I said, almost worship them, that God changing the course of professional football through Tim Tebow is not all that ridiculous of a concept. Everywhere else God's people went in history, they did their best to destroy the idolatry that existed before the Holy Presence entered a place. Perhaps God is asserting his authority over American idols. Or simply using it to gain attention.
Now, if New England loses, people are still going to try to cut Tim Tebow down due to the fact that this game, unless I am mistaken, is being played in Denver. Even if it isn't, they'll make some excuse for the Patriots' loss. If the Patriots win, they'll be cutting Tim Tebow down, again. But you know what? Even if he loses, he will conduct himself in a more gracious manner than any other professional athlete on the face of this planet. He will continue to give his utmost for this team, for his faith. He will not question God as to why he lost this game. He will accept that God knows why. It could be as simple as the fact that America needs to learn how to lose gracefully. Or to see what grace under fire looks like, as Tim Tebow will remain strong and upright under the barrage of hurtful comments that will come from EVERYONE if Denver loses this game. That being said, I really want Denver to win, and to never lose as long as Tebow is at the helm. God could make that happen if he wanted to, but like I said, Americans need to learn how to take the bad along with the good, and that's what Tebow will be able to show them.
One last thought. While it must be flattering to have the terms "tebowing" and "tebow" coined and used in urban dictionary and pop culture, I must state that Tim most likely doesn't want that glory to fall on him. "Tebowing" is defined by Urban Dictionary as dropping to one knee and praying even when everyone around you is doing something completely different. I think Tim would agree that this should simply be called "praying." Or even "supplication," or "dialoguing with the Almighty," if you like. "Tebow" is used to describe someone that is honored, respected, or amazing. That one might be more acceptable. But I think "good dude" works just as well.
Carry on my friends. God bless.
It's a play on words, get it? Little Twist of Fate? Eh, it's not that funny, I know. Ah well. I've got a different sort of humor. But, I love God and I run a lot, so expect to see quite a bit relating to both topics. And plenty of otters.

Some Wise Words
Greetings, my few loyal readers! I come with a blog topic that varies somewhat from the cross country fare that I have previously filled this portal into my mind with. Today's blog appeals to the spiritual and intellectual side of things (yes, they can and DO coexist).
There is a certain quality praised greatly by God and man (although it is not for the sake of praise one should want to possess this quality, let me make that VERY clear). This quality opens a multitude of doors to us that will make our lives as men and women of God somewhat easier to handle. This quality is wisdom. Allow me to provide a sampling of the claims the Bible makes about wisdom.
It will draw you nearer to God (Proverbs 2:5, 3:3-4)
You will gain protection (Proverbs 2:7-8, 3:23-26)
You will have an easier time avoiding temptation and evil (Proverbs 2:12-16)
Bring you happiness (Proverbs 3:13)
Did you notice that all the scripture I listed is from Proverbs? As most of you probably know, it is God's instruction booklet for how to live a wise life. It doesn't necessarily give you all the ins and outs of being a Christian, but practicing some of the wisdom provided for you here certainly will not hurt anything. I would highly recommend giving this book a look. Take a look at what happens if you don't make a little room in your life for gaining knowlege and understanding:
Proverbs 1:20-33
Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: "How long, you simpletons, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you, I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord. They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil."
So, in short, it's best to learn to be wise before you find yourself in a situation where you need wisdom. It's similar to me the other day, driving down the highway. I know absolutely nothing about cars, whatsoever. And I've been fine my whole life without any knowledge about them, or even caring about them. But, when something went wrong, I had no idea what to do, and I would have been in some deep trouble had I been alone. Luckily, Dad was there and knew what to do, and everything is fine. But there isn't always going to be someone there to save you. And that's true, to an extent, spiritually, as well. We need some wisdom, some knowledge of what God wants us to do, of how we need to address and handle different situations that may arise. And we have to be certain that we are truly understanding of God's will. We can't get by on our own wisdom, or even pretend that we have wisdom of our own. The wisdom we need comes from reading God's word, from prayer, and from talking to more experienced believers. Consider the following.
Proverbs 3:7- Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. If you think you know everything, chances are, you're going to screw up. Be humble, and assume that you need to pray over any matter of importance, even slight importance, to make a decision. That's not saying that you'll need God's opinion on whether you should order turkey or ham at Jason's Deli, but if it is a decision that carries a bit more weight (use the wisdom you gain from scripture to make that call), then make sure you go to God.
Proverbs 3:5-6- Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own uunderstanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. When you make these decisions, place the care on God. If you stress out over a decision, you're not really trusting in God. I'm not saying I execute this perfectly, and I'm not sure I know anyone that really does a good job with this. You've got to trust that God knows what He is doing. Don't use petty reasons to try to make the decision yourself (that would, once again, be making the assumption that you're wise, that you know what you're doing). Now, if you end up making a really good choice (or, rather, God makes one for you), make sure that it is made very clear to any observers that God inspired that choice. When you do this, God will continue to make you decisions good ones.
Well, that's all for today, and I hope that these wise words can help someone out. They aren't my teachings. They come from a pretty seasoned little book.

The Roundup
Here we go, ladies and gents. On an afternoon without homework, I have prepared for my installation of review! To start, the review of the KSHSAA 4A State Championships!
Boys
Wamego wins. Who called it? THIS GUY. 54 points in a State meet is mighty impressive. I expected them to win the title, but I was surprised that they ran away with it. Kudos to Jordan Routh and Bradley Borger, in 12th and 13th, Jacob Routh in 16th, and Trenton Butler in 19th. I expected Hudson Philip in the Top 10, and he took 5th. These boys stepped up their game big time to bring the hardware home for Coach Rick Patton. Congrats.
Hugoton was my pick for second, and they pulled it out, barely nipping third by 2 points, 112 to 114.
DeSoto was the third place team, which I called, courtest of the stud effect, provided for in full force by Angel Vasquez.
Andale took just a spot higher than I expected. Honestly, they really performed on an individual basis pretty much just like I expected them to.
Baldwin flip-flopped with Andale. They just didn't perform as strongly as I anticipated, so they switch places.
Labette County finished strong. Remember, I made the comment that their finish could rely on their guns at the top. Drew Baum was 6th and David Geren took 11th. That is proof that the stud effect really works.
Tonganoxie finished almost exactly as I anticipated. Labette jumped them, but they performed basically as anticipated.
Paola ran almost the same times that they have been all season long, which is impressive on Wamego's course. Either they've run on tough courses all season long to make their times look bad or else they stepped it up big time. Kudos.
Hiawatha finished close to where I predicted. Paola leapfrogged them, despite a strong showing by Cale Heineger.
Ulysses struggled more than I anticipated on Wamego's hills.
McPherson finished about where I expected.
Chanute seemed to kind of fall apart.
Overall, I had 7 of the Top 10 individuals correct, including the obvious pick for State champ, Angel Vasquez of DeSoto.
Girls
Baldwin was handily the favorite, and they performed as such. They didn't have anybody in the Top 10 like I thought they would, but they still won pretty easily.
Maize South didn't struggle like I thought they might on the hills. The top 2 (Moran Schafer and Mady Nestor) were awesome, Katy Trumble ran pretty well as the number 3, and number 4, Grace Aitken, really stepped it up. They really earned that 2nd place trophy.
Paola was a complete shock to me. Not only did they have two in the top 10, but they had two under 16:00, faster than any of their results from the season that I could find. They stepped it up BIG TIME. Kudos to Paola, and my apologies for bagging on ya in the predictions.
Pratt exhibited the stud effect at its finest. They finished much higher than I had previously anticipated.
Buhler ran with a very successful pack effort. I am impressed with the way they stepped it up at the State level.
Wamego finished out of the Top 5. I can't believe it. They ran marginally worse than I expected, and that is reflected in finishing marginally worse than I anticipated.
Rose Hill finished just slightly lower than I expected. Emily Terrell lead the way, keeping the team's head above water with the stud effect.
DeSoto surprised me. I really anticipated better from the Wildcats (wait, there's that Wildcat curse again...), but if I know Coach McAfee like I think I do, they'll be back to their original glory in no time.
St. James did alright, but I still think that Hayden would have performed a little better at State. Of course, they might not have, due to the whole Wildcat curse and all...
SIDE BAR: Btw, anyone watch the KSU Wildcats? Didn't go too well...
Concordia was another team that really surprised me with a lackluster performance. After the way they performed at the Wamego Invitational, and at their league championships, I thought for sure they were at least a Top 5 team at State. However, bad races happen, and it appears that more than one of their girls had one at once.
Chanute struggled despite a respectable effort by Maddison Dispensa.
Pittsburg at least got to go to State.
On the individual front, I picked the winner, Cheyenne Becker of Pratt, which I think anybody could have done. Heddin of Hesston performed well, but miss Emilea Finley didn't have the race she wanted. Don't worry, she'll be back on the track. Overall, the girls' Top 10 was very tricky, and I was happy to just have 4 of the 10 correct.
In other, Random News, there is a rumor circulating that the ghost of Steve Prefontaine is making random appearances at high school cross country meets in his home state of Oregon. That could explain why people are so fast there, I'd run fast too if I was being goaded on by a spector.
This Week's Sign(s) of the Appocalypse: After a trip to Garden City, KS, I have decided that Western KS isn't so bad afterall. Also, Wichita South did not take last at 6A State.
Bible Verse of the Day: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct all your paths.
I'm not sure what I'll be blogging about for the next few months until track season begins, but there is always something. The world is full of random observations just waiting to be made. There is college running that might be worth mentioning, like how Wisconsin is going to beat Oklahoma State for the NCAA Division I title. There are spiritual discussions just waiting to be had. There are liable to be college visits worth recounting. I'll find something, and I hope you'll enjoy it.
Until next time!

Fay the Third
This is the third edition of the internet blog that is sweeping the nation. Well, maybe not, but it is the third edition of this phenomenal blog that has yet to be discovered by the vast majority of the world. But once they do...
Anyway, glad that you made it through another Halloween. I can't say the same for the pumpkins on my front porch or the pumpkin spice party mix my sister made the other day.
I would also like to point out, since this is the third installment of this blog, that Shrek the Third was without a doubt the WORST installment in the Shrek saga.
I apologize for the delay, but I unfortunately do not have time quite yet for my review of this past weekend's KSHSAA State Championships. Life has been busy. I have been all over this great state of Kansas over the past weekend, I have homework... yeah yeah, I know, excuses excuses. But until I have a chance to sit down, I'm going to have to provide some filler type information to comprise today's blog. I don't want ya'll to forget about me. So, here are some things I've learned over the weekend.
1) Making recruits cry is an acceptable recruiting practice.
2) Elk make HUGE stains on interstates.
3) Wamego is home to possibly the most amazing barbeque in Kansas, a little joint called The Pit.
4) Western Kansas really isn't as bad as I've always thought it was.
5) Sweet and sour chicken doesn't sit well on 4 hour van rides.
6) There are actually only about 26 country songs in circulation in any given decade.
Some Things I did NOT Learn
1) Where my parents went for the weekend.
2) How to scratch an itchy bone.
I also confirmed several scientific theories.
1) The Distraction Theory- Anytime one needs to complete a task of moderate importance, some distraction will arise.
2) The Shrinking Kansas Theory- You cannot go ANYWHERE in this state without bumping into someone you know.
3) The Detached Ear Theory- When you bump into said individual whom you know, they will talk until your ear falls off.
4) Theory of Selective Disappearance- When you need something or someone, that individual or item will invariably vanish from the face of the planet.
So, I know that isn't much, but I hope it will at least hold your attention until I can properly research and develop a review of State for the next installment.
Adios.

Episode Two
Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado or excess exposition, or even astronomical amounts of alliteration, I hereby impart to you Skipper's State predictions for Saturday's 4A State championships in Wamego.
Boys Team
1st- Wamego. I can't pick against the home team here. They've played second fiddle, second bassoon, second accordion, what have you, for quite some time now. I think they're finally due to pull through on the home course to win Phlash Patton a State title.
2nd- Hugoton. Andale beat them on a tiebreak at Regionals, but I think they're made of tougher stuff than the Indians.
3rd- DeSoto. Angel Vasquez takes full advantage of the stud effect to overcome Baldwin.
4th- Baldwin. For the first time in my life, I can honestly say that Baldwin doesn't have the depth.
5th- Andale. I don't think they'll hold together as well on Wamego's hills. Top 5 is still very solid, and a huge improvement for a team that didn't even go to State last year.
6th- Tonganoxie. I don't have much to say about this team, except that it seems like they have had some very good teams in the distant past, so perhaps this is a return to glory?
7th- Ulysses. The team that beat the best team to NOT go to State.
8th- Hiawatha. Could spoil my carefully crafted predictions, it all comes down to what Cale Heineger shows up Saturday- stud effect or pack runner?
9th- Labette County. I could see them as high as 7th, thanks to their guns at the top, but I think 9th or 10th is more appropriate.
10th- Chanute. Better pack than Labette, but not quite the same guns up top.
11th- McPherson. I still think they would be the worst team to make State if not for...
12th- Paola. I never expected Paola to field such a poor team, but since they got the Southeast Regional, they still snuck in.
Girls Team
1st- Baldwin. Where the boys lack depth, the girls seem to have it. Sienna Durr has been everywhere from 2nd or 3rd to 7th on this team, and not because of her own fluctuations in performance. Regardless of whether the rest of the team passes her up or not, they're still handy favorites.
2nd- DeSoto. This is about as traditional of a top 2 as this state knows.
3rd- Maize South. This might be an ambitious ranking for the Mavericks. I think they'll run into some trouble from their 3rd runner all the way down to the 6th runner.
4th- Concordia. Two things pain me about placing the Panthers at 4th. One of which is that they're behind Maize South, the other is that the streak continues, they beat the Red Raiders.
5th- Wamego. Red Raiders finish out of the Top 5? Unheard of. Stud effect be damned, I rank them ahead of Rose Hill and Pratt.
6th- Rose Hill. Courtesy of Emily Terrell and the stud effect, plus a fair pack effort.
7th- Pratt. Courtesy of Cheyenne Becker and the stud effect.
8th- St. James. The team that beat the best team to NOT make State is actually pretty fair themselves. They've got a solid 1-2 punch up top, but their pack is far less potent than Rose Hill or Pratt.
9th- Buhler. Not much to say about this team, just that they pack up pretty well.
10th- Chanute. Runner up at Regionals, I say they beat Southeast Regional Champs...
11th- Paola. My magical formula places them behind Chanute at the big dance.
12th- Pittsburg. Pack up, but they'll be waaaay back. Funny how all three teams from the Southeast Regional finish in the 3 last places...
Boys Individual
1. Angel Vasquez DeSoto This fellow is a machine. He's strong and dedicated, far more mature than when I first met him. He wins by at least 20 seconds.
2. Jacob Wallace Andale Man on a mission, only a sophomore.
3. Ethan Hartzell Baldwin Also only a sophomore. Baldwin tends to perform well on the big stage, so I say third for the man who, last I saw of him, was rocking a mullet.
4. Jacob Martin or Patrick Weaver Hugoton Whichever of these two are number one for the Eagles will be 4thish. Ordinarily I'd say Patty, but Martin really seemed to come into his own at Regionals. Very impressive.
5. Patrick Rachford Tonganoxie This guy has quietly been having a solid season.
6. Tosh Mihesuah Baldwin Senior goes out with a Top 10.
7. Hudson Phillip Wamego Unique senior, to say the least, leads his team with a Top 10 finish.
8. Joey Kenneson Rose Hill This kid has worked his butt off and consistantly improved throughout high school.
9. Caleb Porter McPherson Not his brother, but he's not too shabby himself.
10. Jacob Koester Concordia He hasn't put up the times that the duo from Labette County have, but he seems to always race Wamego's Phillip pretty tough. I think he continues doing so at State.
Girls Individual
1. Cheyenne Becker Pratt Isn't she like 25 by now? It seems like milennia since she took second behind Valley Center's Morgan Wedekind at State in 2009, shocking favorite Molly Milbourn of El Dorado, who settled for 3rd. Anyway, her 14:41 at Regionals makes her the favorite.
2. Emilea Finley Colby She lost at Regionals, but this salty middle distance star has a nose for the big time competition. She'll go all out at State, you can count on that. She gives Becker a run for the money.
3. MiKala Heddin Hesston Froshky looks to beat Finley again, but I don't see it happening.
4. Emily Terrell Rose Hill She may be tiny, but she's tough.
5. Katie Jones Baldwin Leading the pack for the team champs.
6. Alexa van Lerberg St. James Continuing the budding tradition for the... dare I say it... future powerhouse?
7. Quinlynn Walcott Basehor-Linwood Who? I'm not sure, but she impressed at Regionals, and she's got a Welsh surname. Not to mention, she beat other members of my Top 10, so it's only fair she makes it in too.
8. Rebekah Burgweger DeSoto Leading the Runners-Up
9. Carrie Finson Jefferson West The Northeast Regional was CRAWLING with stars, she was tenth in her region, but she's 9th at State, the way I see it.
10. Carol Whaley Baldwin Two in the Top 10 is a great indicator that Baldwin is the top team in 4A.
So, there you have it, my rankings. But that's enough XC for today. How about some Random Fun?
I have heard rumors in the scientific community that they have discovered a way to manipulate a virus in such a manner that it destroys cancer cells. I hope it works. But, can anyone remember the Will Smith movie that I absolutely loved as a sophomore in high school? You know, I Am Legend? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it started out by saying that scientists had done the exact same thing... I remember my high school anatomy teacher making the remark some 3 years ago... "As soon as we see scientists claiming that they have a viral cure for cancer, that's when we need to begin preparing for the zombie appocalypse. " Well. If you need me, I'll be practicing my marksmanship.
This is the third consecutive night that I have been awoken by something odd at around 4:15 AM. The first night, it was a pack of dogs attacking a herd of horses. How dumb could they be? Have you noticed how horses don't like to be messed with? Fido lost, in case you were wondering. Two nights ago, I was awoken by my bedroom door popping open. On its own. Alrighty. Last night, I woke up to find my pillows laying at the foot of my bed. Well. What do you know. I must be a wild sleeper.
Speaking of sleep, that reminds me of a track related dream I had the other night. I was asked to pole vault by my coach. Why, I couldn't tell you. But I did it. And cleared 17 feet (obviously a dream). The problem is, I missed the mat. As I'm falling towards the track, I slip a naughty really, really loudly. The funny thing is, they're doing a live television interview of some chick right next to the pole vault pit. So I'm all over the news shouting obscenities and falling 17 feet to the earth. Figures.
Oh, and a little thing I'm trying. I call it Lemonade Culture. I don't drink pop, so I can't really call it pop culture. It's where I'll make some comment on celebs or that sort of thing. Two things, real quick: Based on the new Paramore songs we've been hearing, I think the new album due out next year sometime shall be phenomenol. Also that Herman Cain add is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.
Bible Verse of the Day: Philippians 4:6 Be anxious in nothing, but in all things, through prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make your requests known unto God.
God bless, maybe I'll see you at State XC in Wamego.

Getting Started
Ok! Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for what you have all been waiting for!
Or not. But I have always wanted to try this. It's a blog. From me. To you. About running. And random stuff that happens on a daily basis. Even if you don't like running that much, I promise, you will find some of my posts very much entertaining. Because I can.
For starters... some Kansas High School Cross Country, specifically 4A, but a little bit of random observation thrown in there.
4A Boys
El Dorado: Andale takes the cake... on a tie breaker over Hugoton. I was very impressed by Andale getting their top 3 under 17:00... I didn't see that coming. I figured on Jacob Wallace winning (just a sophomore boys and girls), but I didn't expect him to run 16:07. Kudos. I think the big surprise of the day was Mulvane failing to qualify despite putting 3 runners in the top 15. I don't know how Ulysses snuck in there to steal that number 3 team spot, but somehow, they pulled it off.
Concordia: No big surprise that Wamego takes gold. The course at Concordia is very tough from what I've seen of results over the past few years, so I pay no heed to the times. I still rank Wamego as the favorite at State. Hiawatha I think is a hit or miss team. I'm not overly surprised that they qualified for State, but slightly surprised that they were Regional Runners-up. McPherson surprised me by qualifying, honestly, as I expected Concordia to take advantage of their home course and get themselves in. Apparently not, as they fall to 5th. Hesston was another team I expected to be in the mix, and in fact they were, finishing 4th.
WyCo: I called this one as far as teams go, but DeSoto won over Baldwin. I don't see either team performing as well at state as they traditionally do, but I think that you'd have to be goofy to not pick Angel Vasquez as the 4A favorite after he goes 15:42 (still a junior). Tonganoxie also looked very good to me, and I was surprised that they weren't ahead of Basehor-Lindwood, the 4th place team, by more than they were.
Ottawa: I expected Chanute to take the W. No surprise there. I expected a runner-up finish from Labette County behind that 1-2 punch of Drew Baum and David Geren. Now what I didn't expect was for Paola to be Iola. I guess that's why they run the meet instead of looking at some college kid's predictions.
Best Team to NOT Qualify: Mulvane. Obviously. I know they aren't the team of old, but shoot. I think they'd still be pretty competitive at State. We'll never know.
Overall Thoughts: Depth. Dang. 10 boys under 17:00 at El Dorado, one runner under 16:00 at WyCo... Baldwin and DeSoto NOT automatic assumptions for top 3? What is going on here? Btw, at ElDo, the times that would have easily qualified when I was in high school were placing in the 30s. :O My guess is that Andale won't be as strong at State as their Regional finish would suggest, but the State preview isn't going up until I get a chance to research a little more.
4A Girls
El Dorado: Maize South with the W. No surprise. 1-3 are very strong, but their 4 and 5 really prevent them from being a serious State contender, in my opinion. The big talk of the day is Pratt's Cheyenne Becker going 14:41. DANG. Can you say State favorite? Rose Hill qualifies as runner-up behind Emily Terrell, but imo showed better depth than Maize South. Pratt mainly qualifies via the "Stud Effect" (where one runner drags the team score down by being up so high in the individual rankings). Andale isn't overly close in 4th, 12 pts behind. Even without Becker, the Greenbacks still get the nod.
Concordia: The home team's ladies are finally making themselves a presence, knocking off Wamego for the second consecutive week. Does this continue at State? Hmm, we shall see. Buhler swings into the third spot, not surprising. I expected more of a fight from Haven, though. The big surprise to me is Hesston froshky MiKala Heddin beating up on middle distance star Emilea Finley of Colby, a 20 second gap!
WyCo: Here was another Regional where I was a little surprised. Baldwin and DeSoto go 1-2, yada yada, no surprise there, but Topeka Hayden doesn't qualify? Facepalm. St. James gets the nod. To be fair to St. James, I am told they had an off performance at the Wamego Invitational in September, explaining the trouncing they took. So nothing else to report here, really.
Ottawa: I nailed these teams. Paola, Chanute, and Pittsburg work their way in, Girard and Independence both coming up just shy of the bronze. Nothing huge to report individually, but I will say that Paola was far better than I predicted.
Best Team to NOT Qualify: Topeka Hayden. Sorry to rub it in, ladies, but you laid an egg. I really felt like the Wildcats were Top 5 material at State. Wait... Wildcats? Mulvane is the Wildcats, too... maybe it's a Wildcat curse... Haven was fourth, also the Wildcats... hmm...
Overall Thoughts: Not too sure I really have any major ones to put forward on this lady's side... I think it is going to be more traditional with Baldwin and DeSoto close to the top, throw in Wamego, Concordia, and Maize South... plus the stud effect coupled with depth for Rose Hill... hard saying. I look forward to seeing results.
Other News: In 5A, I actually missed less teams than I did in 4A, which was quite a shocker to me. I don't have a lot to report on there, as my expertise lies more in the 4A realm. I was a little surprised at the Bishop Carroll Regional, where Winfield girls are the runner up. Kudos to 5th runner Courtney Griffiths. She'd struggled some at some past meets, making me worry if Winfield would even qualify in 5A, let alone take the Regional Runner-Up. The boys also qualified, thanks to Josh Hanna, Colby Kromminga, and the Stud Effect. Bishop Carroll girls won, Goddard Eisenhower third. I think we see 3 of the top 5 or 6 at State here. But I think BC has some serious competition for State in Lansing (two runners under 15:00, three more under 16:00) and Saint Thomas Aquinas (6 between 15:03 and 15:35).
Also, I must just say that Jacob Morgan of Washburn Rural is an uber stud, and that Jonah Heng of Shawnee Mission West will be his closest competition. Close is a relative term. I expect up to 5 runners under 16:00 at 6A State.
Kudos to Wichita North, who has really impressed me this season.
Also, this week's Sign of the Appocalypse is that Wichita South qualified for State...?
Random Thing for the Day: While doing some heritage research, I discovered that I am widely of a Welsh background. Huh. There's a heritage you don't hear people bragging about very often. I'll take it. Cause I'm unique.
Bible verse of the Day: Matthew 6:33 Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given you as well.
Happy Monday, and God bless.
